For years during the NFL football season I have followed Gregg Easterbrook's "Tuesday Morning Quarterback" (TMQ) column, even as it has bounced from website to website. For those of you who are unaware, the column is a very long-winded mix of football, political, and socioeconomic commentary. I don't necessarily agree with everything Easterbrook says about anything, but I do enjoy the way he writes it.

This week's TMQ column featured a collision of football and Batman as it contained 6 paragraphs railing against the DC reboot (mentioned at the start of the month here on Wriphe.com). As a DC comics continuity enthusiast, I find argument with many of Easterbrook's comments on the subject, but definitely NOT his conclusion:

"Bring back the era when Batman was foremost a detective, rather than a symbolic being dueling other symbolic beings." -- Gregg Easterbrook, TMQ, espn2.com, Sept. 6, 2011

Amen to that, Mr. Easterbrook. They used to call them Detective Comics for a reason. Now that they've canceled that book to start it over at #1, I suggest that they rename it something more appropriate to the action and characterization found between the covers. Maybe Gun Happy Comics or Surly Superhero Comics. A little truth in your advertising couldn't hurt, DC.

Football season approaches rapidly. One of the best parts of the NFL season (and there are many, many highlights of the NFL season every season) is the Tuesday Morning Quarterback (TMQ for short) column written by Gregg Easterbrook. I was caught by surprise this week when I discovered that TMQ was returning to Page 2 on ESPN.com this year after several years at NFL.com. Apparently this switch was announced way back in April and I didn't notice it. The season hasn't even started yet and I've already almost fumbled the ball!
